One of us may or may not have recently purchased a $39, 16 oz jar of yogurt (yes, you read that correctly) after learning about its cult-like following that exploded on TikTok. Beyond its catchy name, deluxe packaging, alluring monthly flavor drops, and delicious taste, it promises some serious health benefits. After a lot of trepidation, the ice was broken and the first purchase was made (when it was finally back in stock).
While it’s still too early to say if this product delivers on its promises, this whole experience got us thinking: Just like consumers are evaluating whether a $39 jar of yogurt is worth the investment, your employees are doing the same when it comes to their commitment to your company.
The job seeker of today is savvy, and they’re weighing whether their time, skills, and energy are being invested wisely. Is your company delivering on the promises made during the interview process? Are you backing up your differentiated workplace culture with meaningful opportunities for growth, development, and support? Or are you hoping that no one will notice when, what appeared to be a pretty package on the outside, turns out to not go deeper?
Time and time again, we speak with candidates who were lured in by flashy job offers, only to be ready to jump ship 6 months in. The truth is, much like the yogurt, surface-level satisfaction isn’t enough when the cost is so high. If we are going to spend more time at work than anywhere else, shouldn’t it be a gratifying experience? something that truly nourishes our career growth, well-being, and future. If your company is offering more, if you’re genuinely investing in your people, they’ll see the value. But if it’s all hype without follow-through, your “flavor of the month” won’t be enough to keep them for the long term.
Until next time,
Your Spherion South Central WI & Northern IL team
